IndyCar Drivers Set to ring in New Year’s at Rolex 24

As it’s a veritable Smorgasboard ‘O IndyCar talent interloping on Ye Day-toner’s High Banks before Thar season starts…

Welcome Back Y’all to another year’s No Fenders Scribblings, or as someone on Ye Intrawoods’ politely labeled it, Dribble! As it’s hard to believe that we’re only 48 Days away from the 2022 IndyCar season kicking off at St Petersburg on February 27th!

As the only “Fulltime” season ride without it’s Driver’s identity revealed prior to New Year’s was who’d be driving the Twisties’ portion of the calendar aboard Ed Carpenter Racing’s #20 entry? As the seat still seems up for grabs between incumbent Conor Daly or either Ryan Hunter-Reay or Jack Aiken, with nothing having been publicly divulged as of January 7th.

Meanwhile, early last December, Racer’s Marshall Pruett teased us All over how potentially nearly Half of the IndyCar Grid’s Drivers could be contesting this year’s fast approaching 24 Hours of Daytona over January 29-30, as here’s what I’ve gleamed so far for this year’s Rolex 24…

Prototypes

Guess I should begin with the reigning winner Wayne Taylor Racing and it’s No. 10 Acura. As Alexander Rossi will return just for the 24 Hours of Daytona this year before solely focusing upon Indy Cars, since it’s a Contract year for him. While Meyer shank Racing’s Helio Castroneves will Moonlight aboard MSR’s #60 Acura in this year’s Rolex 24. With MSR’s newest IndyCar recruit Simon Pagenaud, who has a wealth of Sports Car racing experience being confirmed as part of the team’s #60 entry’s Driver lineup January 3rd.

Not surprisingly, Chip Ganassi Racing’s (CGR) Jimmie Johnson will return for another Go with Action Express Racing’s (AXR) second #48 Cadillac DPi VR for IMSA Weathertech SportsCar Championship’s four Endurance rounds, beginning with Daytona.

As Johnson’s teammates will once again be K-Squared’, aka Kamui Kobayashi, Mike “Rocky” Rockenfeller and new recruit Jose Marie Lopez.

Staying with CGR IndyCar Drivers, naturally I’ll Arse-sume that Scotty “The Iceman 2.0” Dixon will be co-Driving one of Cheep’s two Cadillac entries, presumably the #01 entry with Renger Van der Zande and Sebastien Bourdais…

LMP2

The most intriguing lineup for Mwah in the second tier LMP2 Prototypes category is the former IndyCar team DragonSpeed’s No. 81 entry, which features three Andretti Autosport Alumni. With former 2018 Indy Lights teammates Pato O’Ward and Colton Herta being joined by Andretti Autosport IndyCar Rookie Devlin DeFrancesco and which One Doesn’t look like the Others? Sports Car racer Eric Lux filling out the roster.

Racing Team Netherland naturally will field an All Dutch Driver’s lineup with Rinus VeeKay making his second Rolex 24 start. As Rinus will copilot the #29 Oreca LMP2 entry with former Despised Formula 1 Bad Boy Pilote Guido-the-Dutchman, aka Giedo Van der Garde amongst his other co-Drivers.

Saloons’

Top Jimmy’ (Vasser) and James Sully’ Sullivan’s Vasser Sullivan Racing affair, who runs the Factory Lexus GT Daytona (GTD) entries, will once again run it’s brace of Lexus RC F GT3’s, with the #12 in GTD and the famed No. 14 in the GTD Pro category.

As A.J. Foyt IndyCar Rookie Kyle Kirkwood will continue his Endurance Only Duties for VSR, sharing seat time with Jack Hawksworth and Ben Barnicoat.

And that’s just a look at All of the confirmed 2022 IndyCar Drivers who’ll be competing in this year’s Rolex 24, without commenting on Andretti Autosport’s #36 LMP3 entry, or United Autosports LMP2 entry, with the latter being Co-Owned by somebody named Zack Brown.

Other Possibilities

Current Andretti Autosport Newbie’ Romain Grosjean could possibly show up at Daytona? Whilst former Andretti Autosport Duo Ryan Hunter-Reay and James Hinchcliffe are said to be exploring their Sports Cars options, albeit Hinch’ is seeking refuge in the GTD Saloon ranks.

And finally, Marshall’s wildest Scuttlebutt suggests that possibly ether of CGR’s Marcus Ericsson or even Alex Palou could be interested in one of Cheep’s two Caddy’ Prototypes drives…

Update

After putting this “Story to Bed,” Marshall Pruett reported that former CGR Sports Car Ace Kevin Bacon’ Magnussen would return for another go at this year’s Rolex 24 aboard the #02 Cadillac with it’s regular Drivers Earl Bamber and Alex Lynn, plus Marcus Ericsson. Along with confirming that Scott Dixon and Alex Palou will join the #01’s crew of Renger Van der Zande and Sebastien Bourdais during the Endurance rounds. As I believe that Ericsson and Palou will be making their Rolex 24 Debuts.

But Magnussen will only drive for CGR at Daytona since he’s contracted as a Werks’ Peugeot FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) HotSchue’ for 2022 and beyond…

A Great Beth Paretta Racer Interview

Covering All facets of life…

This is a wonderful interview of Beth Paretta by Racer’s Marshall Pruett for his numerous, weekly Marshall Pruett Podcasts. It was intended to be released last May prior to some ‘lil Oval race at 16th and Georgetown, but for reasons unknown never happened. The entire interview weighs in at a Hefty two hours, for which Marshall’s broken into two segments  for which I’m eagerly awaiting Part 2 of Beth Paretta’s life in Motor Racing and Career!

As Part 1 covers Beth’s childhood, initial introduction to motor racing, her Parents and Older brother, and how She went from working for Aston Martin to Dodge’s SRT Division…

Being Blind, I’ve only managed to figure out how to “manually” find and activate the Play button on the Racer Podcasts. As I found what appears to be the second part on ye Intrawoods’, nee Internet, but couldn’t find a readily Accessible Screen Reader Friendly Play button to “Click” upon, so good Hunting!

As I highly recommend checking out the first Hours portion in the Racer link below!

Hypercars Future Burning Bright

Nah, No Super Nova or “The future’s so Bright I’ve gotta wear Shades” Jokes here…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65YIlwxBuvM

Ah, time to ring in thoust New year’s Kiddoes! Since the season’s first “true” Endurance race, the Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway is less than four weeks away now, in just 26 days! Taking part over the January 29-30 weekend, Although they’ll go Qualifying in the Motil Pole Shootout race on Sunday, January 23rd.

Although I suppose if we’re Talkin’ Endurance races, then Thars none Bigger than the annual Dakar Rally which just started yesterday, and runs from  January 2-14. Which typically I’d be “Watching,” Err listening to the 30mins Highlight vignettes on NBC Sports right now. Oh wait a bloody minute, they turned that into a gory Paywall “channel” called Peacock Bastardoes!

As the Sports Cars landscape will be making major Makeovers the following two seasons, as we All eagerly await the Hypercars convergence in 2023, which will make Thar Debut at next year’s Rolex 24. As I’ll try Highlighting what’s known so far, primarily focusing upon the major IndyCar teams “Side” projects.

Porsche

As we already know, Penske will campaign the Porsche Hypercars effort near and abroad, beginning in 2023. With two Le Mans Daytona Hypercars (LMDH) Prototyped entries competing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and FIA World Endurance championship. (WEC) With Oh Canada’s Multiimatic supplying the Chassis for both Porsche  and it’s Seester Audi’s efforts.

Penske is expected to run a limited WEC season campaign with two LMP2 Oreca/Gibson V-8 chassis, beginning at the season opening 1,000 miles of Sebring in March thru the summer’s 24 Heurs du Mans in preparations for it’s 2023 LMDH Assault.

Felipe Nasr and Dane Cameron have finally been confirmed as two of Penske’s Porsche Factory Drivers. Nasr will also drive the four Endurance rounds for FAB’s GTD Pro Porsche 911 campaign this year, while Cameron’s extra curricular 2022 racing activities aren’t publicly known currently. Not to mention who the rest of the Porsche Penske LMDH Squad’s Drivers are…

https://racer.com/2021/12/18/porsche-teases-images-of-lmdh/

Audi

Andretti Autosport was rumoured to be in the running for the Werks’ Audi effort initially, before Audi decided to take a different path, abruptly Pulling the Plug upon it’s intended LMDH project, whilst we’re still awaiting to hear what Audi’s ultimate Sports Car plans are? Although Mikey A’ claims He’s still interested in An IMSA LMDH Programme.

BMW

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLLR) has been confirmed as BMW’s Factory Team in  it’s two car IMSA Only LMDH effort. Whilst Booby Ruble (Bobby Rahal) and his Cohorts will campaign a two car GTD (Daytona) Pro Werks’ programme with BMW’s brand new M4 coupe this year, in preparation for it’s Prototypes campaign in 2023.

Cadillac

As expected Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR) has been confirmed as one of Cadillac’s two LMDH Factory entrants, with Action Express Racing (AXR) as the other, with both teams set to run in both IMSA and WEC, ergo Le Mans.

As Ye Cheepster’ (Chip Ganassi) is adding a second Cadd ‘Oh lacc’ car to his CGR IMSA Prototypes campaign this year, having announced the addition of le Hamburgular’, nee SeaBass, aka Sebastien Bourdais, Earl Bamber and Alex Lynn as it’s new Fulltime Drivers.

As Bourdais will partner Renger Van der Zande, the remaining “Holdover,” and presumably Scott Dixon will be Thar Co-Driver at Daytona.

Whilst it’s also unknown how many chassis CGR will enter in 2023, and Ditto for AXR, who are also expecting Driver changes. As it was initially rumoured that Felipe Nasr would be moving to Audi’s LMDH concern, before Audi decided to not run an LMDH programme

I’ll Arse-sume that Van der Zande and Bourdais will run cheeps’ IMSA LMDH effort and Bamber and Lynn the Seester’ WEC effort abroad, but I’m just Speculating Thar…

Acura

One Half of Acura’s two car upcoming IMSA LMDH effort will be fielded by Meyer Shank Racing, which Arse-sumedly will be a “Soft” landing spot for Hulio’, nee Helio Castroneves whenever the Dancin’ fool retires again from Indy Cars. As surely “Symone,” nee Pageantry’, aka Simon Pagenaud will be involved too in MSR’s future Sports Car plans.

Lexus

Top Jimmy’ (Vasser) and James Sully’ Sullivan of Vasser Sullivan Racing, who recently Quit their partnership with Dale Coyne will continue campaigning Thar Brace ‘O Lexus RC F GT3 racecars in the GT Daytona ranks. With one GTD Pro entry and one GTD “Amateur” entry for 2022 and beyond.

Presumably the No. 14 Lexus will be it’s GTD Pro mount? As Racer claims Thar a Mega 13 GTD Pro entries entered for this year’s Rolex 24. Although I can only come up with who seven of them are.

As Corvette Racing and RLLR’s BMW Werks’ efforts will run two cars apiece. And then just learned that my Homeboyz’ Heart of Racing will add a second Aston Martin Vantage GTD Pro entry to their lineup. Whilst the aforementioned Lexus GTD Pro entry plus FAB Motorsports campaigning a Porsche 911 GTD Pro entry gets Mwah to seven, so who knows who the other six are, Eh?

As that’s what we’ve got to look forward to for the future Hypercars era. Along with the new GTD Pro category and many more changes to this year’s Sports Cars paddocks to “Discuss” later. While Y’all can check out this slightly dated Peek at the forthcoming various Hypercar projects near and abroad…

A New Boxing Day Holidazes Tradition

As Hopefully the Red Baron Won’t you Know What to this No Fenders Post, ack Ack Ack!

“Everybody Knows A Turkey and some Missletoe

Helps to Keep the Season Bright!”

Although neither Snoopy or thou Red Baran will be taking Off today, since Thars actually a very rare arrival of Snow here in Ye Utter’ Florence, which is a rarity due to our proximity to Sea level Ho Ho Ho!

Guess it was just Mwah who initially thought that since Veteran’s Day was on a Thursday this year, that the following day was “Black Friday,” Righto?

As I spent All Day Friday (Nov 12th) thinking this since Cool FM, Eugene’s 99.1FM Radio Station which some of us can pick up sporadically on Ye Oregon Coast via Florence’s Transmitter had begun Thar Holiday Programming early this year…

since they’d begun Thar Gory Eight weeks or is it Thee Number Nine? No. 9 Numeral Nein? Nonstop 24/7 Nothing but Ack Ack Ack Christmas Songs Barrage thru New Years.

Although I sort of enjoy this since it’s the only time ‘O year Yuhs can Hear such Classics as John Lennon’s so this is Christmas, The Beach Boys ‘lil Saint Nick “run run Reindeer” song. Or I want A Hippopotamus for Christmas. Alvin and The Chipmunks, chuck Berry’s run run Rudolf, You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch along with other various Classics like Bing Crosby and David Bowies Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy Duet et Al.

Not to mention I always hear some Vintage Christmas song I haven’t heard before. As last year I spent several weeks trying to figure out that it was The Carpenters singing Sleigh ride from their 1978 Album Christmas Portrait, but I digress.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLoOVmPxJo0

Since I did get a Smile on my face when hearing for the very first time ever this November The Ballad of Snoopy’s Yuletide Dogfight!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sh-J4GSPgAM

As the song is by The Royal Guardsmen, a Florida Rock Band who later became known as the “Snoopy Band!” As their Snoopy Christmas song was recorded in 1966. With the song reaching No. 2 on the billboard Hot 100 and was certified Gold in early ’67.

Funniest bit ‘O trivia is the Band recorded the song without Charles Schulz’s initial permission. So their record label Up North Eh! In Ye Great White North of Oh Kanaduh’ refused to release it due to potential legal issues Stateside with Messer Schulz.

So the Band put out a very blatant re-issue called Squeaky ant The Black Knight Up North Eh! Which also became popular in Ye Frozen Tundra before Schulz gave his permission for the song.

Hence, naturally I got a Wild Hair to “See” if I could find said Squeaky and The Black Knight Great White North “Import” version, for which I was super Surprised that it came up almost immediately, Ja Volt!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioGBIKfKXWI

As They All lived to Fight Another Gory Day, Ho Ho Ho!

Since after All, “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of The Year,” SPEW! Now, does anybody know where I can buy a Turkey? Or how Much this Damn Bird Weighs? Ho Ho Ho…

Happy boxing Day, Yall!

Happy Holley 4-barrel Holidazes, Y'all!

Groan, he's at it again. In what’s now become a yearly tradition here on No Fenders. Where your Humble Scribe Tomaso tortures Y’all with his witty repartee of his version of poetry  from a much overused theme, Hya!

Although it's another somewhat Blue, Blue Christmas, since unfortunately that Fine Kuhnaidiun' Lass Claire's No longer with us. Not to mention Ye Rhythm Professor, thou one ‘N only Neil Peart, or Sadly Pixie the Wonderdog, Wuf Wuf!

Betcha thought I was gonna Roll with 'Ol Elvis's Blue-Blue-Blue platter, Eh? But Claire would want something a 'lil more up-tempo like I Dunno, a ‘lil Ditty from Ye Muppets Me Thinks!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tk9wuADoxA

As  Y’all can See ‘N Hear Claire’s unique Zest for life on one of her past videos. As Claire also went by the “Handle” Panda, and I can only “guess” Ha Ha where her inspiration for this funny video came from…

httpss://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdMfGGJl9po

As may be it’s ye Eggnog? But I always think of my favourite Two Hosers this time ‘O year, Fa la la la la lah…

NO! Not thee Mayor 'O Hinchtown and thou Young Wicky! (Robert Wickens) Nor Scott "What Pace Car?" Goodyear & Jockess V, nee Jack Vanilla, aka Jacques Villeneuve. Nye Pat "The Carpenter" (Carpentier) Nor TAG', nee Alex Tagliani. Or our two Newest Hosers Dalton Kellett or Devlin DeFrancesco, but I digress…

Nope instead, per tipicali this time 'O year, those loveable KuhNucks Bob & Doug always come to mind, along with thar signature version of a certain Christmas song! And ah One, and Ah two Ladies ‘N Germs…

On the First Day 'O Carmania, 'Ol Carroll Shelby Growled loudly at Me;

Six Carling Black Labels'

Five Aston Martin DB5's'

four Borg Warner Trophies

three Diamantina Cocktails'

Two Saleen Mustangs

And a Bad Arse 289 FIA Shelby Cobra underneath thou Tree!

As this witty repartee from Thy Isle 'O Nofendersville was inspired by Bob & Doug McKenzie, for which they'd definitely say Take Off Eh! As this "Song's" Definitely Done, and that Labatts too Hoser!

Merry Kringle (2021 edition)

‘Twas the day before Christmas, when through all of the paddocks.

Not a motor was idling, not even a single Cosworth “Lump” could be heard.

The garages were swept and tidied with care,
In hopes that Roger Penske soon would be there.

The mechanics were nestled all snug in their beds.
While visions of Championship bonuses danced in their heads.
(Not to mention HULIO dreaming of what might have been, if only he hadn't crashed over that 'Yump in Houston)

And “Princess” in her negligee, (Or was that her Cowboy Hat 'N swim suit?) Along with Paul Tracy in his crash bucket, had just settled down for a quick tryst in the sack.

(Hey! I hear that Dan-Dan-Danickers' now available, right Aaron? Likes guess that’s Not the Only fumble You’ve Made…)

When out on the lawn there arose such a racket, ‘ol PT sprang from the bed to see what “TAG, Suitcase Servia, Whiney Bags and Bad Bobby D’ were groaning about.

Away to the window Tracy flew like a demon. Ran over the back markers and punted the Hamburgular clear outta the way.

The smoke from between Sea Bass’s ears. Glistened like a smoke signal, without a glow. When, what to PT’s wandering eyes should appear but a Ferrari ENZO followed by an armada of Prancing Horses in tow.

The ENZO was piloted by an ex-Formula 1 driver, still brutally quick.
That Tracy knew in an instant it must be Michael Schumacher.

More rapid than a grid full of Bridgestone alternate “soft rubber tyre’ Formula 1 chassis in “Qualie Two” light fuel tanks mode. The seven times World Champion whistled and jeered, and called them by name;

Now, Mika now, Coulthard! Now, Rubinoe and Ralfanso!

On, Heinz-Harald! On Villeneuve! On Damion and Irvine!

To the front of the grid! To the head of the pack.

Now burn rubber, burn rubber baby, burn rubber quick!

As tyre tracks that leave ominous black streaks behind. While Herr Schumacher leaves another competitor further behind!

So up to the roof-top the Prancing Horses flew. With trunk loads of presents and Schuey too. And then, came a banshee wail of the ENZO, high atop the roof.

The revving and idling of each assorted Ferrari. As PT rubbed his hands. Down the chimney Schuey forlornly came. He was dressed all in Scuderia Red, from his head to his foot.

And his Nomex driver’s suit was all tarnished with ashes and soot.

an assortment of winning trophies, he’d stuffed into his back pack.

His eyes -- how they twinkled! His rosy cheeks, how they glowed.

His hair as always was perfect, (by Loreal…)

his jaw like a chisel! His lips clenched in a mischievous smirk. As the smile was reminiscent of a Cheshire cat.

The remains of a Cuban cigar hung limply from his teeth. As clouds of Smoke encircled Schuey's head like a wreath.

He had a taunt face and washboard abs. that still showed his youthful physique when he laughed at the dumbfounded PT. He was strong and fit as an ox, a festive and jolly elf.

Thus Paul could only laugh when he appeared

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head. Soon gave TRACY nothing to fear. As Schuey spoke nary a word, but went straight to his work. Filling all of the stockings with various racing trinkets. (Such as the 2002 Borg Warner Cup, a new three year contract signed by P.L. Newman & Carl Haas along with some of the Hamburgular’s secret winning sauce…)

Before Messer Chrome Horn could wipe away his astonishment, the famous German turned Quickly, laying his finger aside of his nose. And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose.

He sprang to his idling ENZO, and to his waiting minions gave a whistle. And the screeching of tortured Ferrari lumps could be heard as they burst away like rocket ships! But ‘Ol PT heard Schumacher exclaim, as he power-slided out of sight,

"Happy Holidays to all, and to all a good-night."

Merry Kringle Y'all!

F1: Latifi Unfairly Hammered’

Is this really the way Sporting Fans want to Behave?

The News of Williams F1 Racing Driver Nicholas Latifi receiving Death Threats following the outcome of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix  is utterly Disgusting, Really Disturbing to Mwah, and is totally Inexcusable!

Excluding NASCAR, which After All, Racin’s Rubbin’ is a Cherished term and totally acceptable form of motor racing, Sigh! Immediately I can only think of three instances in Open Wheel Racing that somewhat compare.

Arguably Renault’s Crash Gate, when Neilsen Ho’, aka Nelson Piquet Jr. Deliberately Crashed his Renault into the Barriers to enable F1 teammate Fredrico Suave’, nee Fernando Alonso to fortuitously inherit the lead from the unexpected Safety Car and go onto win the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, when Renault desperately needed a win to buoy it’s flagging Formula 1 fortunes most closely “mimics” what Fans are Enraged over.

Otherwise I can only think of Robby gordon’s famous tossing out bits of his neck restraint to cause a yellow Flag in order to Pit, or the somewhat “Controversial” or conveniently fortuitous Spin/Stall of Bryan High Speed Hurdles’ Herta ensuring IndyCar teammate Marco Andretti’s Debutante IndyCar victory.

Yet in all three of those examples, the Drivers in Question were simply either trying to Help their respective teammates or themselves, and I’d like to remind Y’all that it makes absolutely Zero sense to think that Latifi had any Ulterior Motives, especially if we consider who supplys Team Willy’s Powertrain components, specifically it’s Mercedes Power Unit!

As I can only Applaud Latifi for having the “Hunger” to Not wish being passed by the lowly Haas of Mick Schumacher in the F1 Season Finale, or in general, which reportedly is what ultimately triggered Latifi’s unexpected Shunt into the Barriers at Yas Isle. For which Latifi did absolutely Nothing Wrong!

Somehow I Doubt this Repugnant Attitude has been voiced towards either of the Rookie Haas F1 Drivers who’ve arguably struggled with the worst Chassis on the Grid, either when Schumacher Junior or Nikita Mazepin have crashed and  caused Safety Cars to be Deployed. Although I’ll admit I’ve glombed onto the term  bantered about on Social Media calling him MazaSpin! Which obviously isn’t a term of endearment…

Yet as Sporting Fans or Society in General, making Death Threats from behind “The Curtain” of Anonymity are Zero percent Funny and should Absolutely Not be Tolerated! As I cannot scribble anything better than Racer’s Chris Medland wrote in his latest Opinion piece rightly Questioning What’s Wrong with Some people?

https://racer.com/2021/12/22/opinion-seriously-what-is-wrong-with-some-people/
