More about the Panoz DP-01

Now that the existing Champ Car teams have all picked up their first Panoz DP-01’s and are set to shortly debut them at Sebring. (Jan. 23-25) Gordon Kirby has revealed more about the new cars design process…

Although I was aware of the new cars major changes, i.e.; Front nose wing; Paddle shift gear selector; Removal of the ubiquitous “Pop-off” valve and new Anti-stall technology. I wasn’t aware that the new car will feature Aluminum wheels vs. traditional Magnesium…

The new Panoz also will cost significantly less then a current Lola chassis. The DP-01 goes for a cool $220,000 which is approx. half the cost of the recently retired Lola B2K chassis…

With the completion of the firs 10 customer chassis, Panoz will continue production in batches of 5 cars until reaching the planned for 35 car allotment for 2007…
